Cochin International Airport to help Sri Lanka in low cost airport

The government is planning to construct a low-cost greenfield airport in the country on the lines of the Cochin International Airport.

This was disclosed at a preliminary discussion between President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) Managing Director Sriram Bharath yesterday.

President Rajapakse, who was impressed by the facilities and functioning of the airport during his visit to Kochi in December 2005, expressed his willingness to set up an airport with the assistance of CIAL.

The team, led by the CIAL Managing Director is in the island on the invitation of the President.
