Army destroys 20 LTTE bunkers

Security Forces in a pre-dawn attack have destroyed 20 LTTE bunkers in Nagarkovil and Muhamalai forward defence line, Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said at media briefing today (January 30) in Colombo. 

According to ground troops information 35 LTTE bunkers were attacked and 20 of them were completely destroyed. 10 LTTE cadres were killed and several others were injured in the attack. 

Around 6.35 a.m. this morning, army launched another attack on LTTE bunkers destroying 10 bunkers. According to defence sources at least 30 LTTE cadres were killed. 

Seven army soldiers injured in the attack have been admitted to Military Hospital in Palali. 

In a separate attack, the Air Force has destroyed an LTTE field office in Vettikadu this morning completely destroying the base, Air Force spokesman Wing Commander Andrew Wijesooriya said.
