[Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 8.50 GMT]

The army cautioned against possibility of explosions by LTTE posing as ice-cream vendors.

Citing intelligence reports, Military Spokesman Udaya Nanayakkara at a media briefing today (January 30) in Colombo said that LTTE cadres were planning to smuggle in explosives by concealing them in the ice-cream boxes fixed to bicycles.

Meanwhile 34 persons who entered cleared areas from January 1st to 20th in Mannar have revealed LTTE’s harassments against the civilians living in the area.

According to them LTTE forcefully collects blood and provide compulsory military training for the school children. Parents traveling to south should retain their children in LTTE custody till they return.

The lorry arrested with explosives in Vavuniya on January 28 is attached to the Kilinochchi Base Hospital, Military spokesman confirmed.

According to Nanayakkara, the Police have uncovered 1.8 kilos of C4 explosives stuffed in the soles of two leather sandals and 3.5 kilos of C4 hidden in the lorry jack.
