President discusses academic issues with University teachers

Contribution of the University teachers is greatly required for the country’s development process, emphasized President Mahinda Rajapaksa at a discussion held with University teachers at Temple Trees today (January 31). 

It was discussed at the meeting the ways and means to re-organize the university system in the country to go along with the current economic process, providing facilities to the University staff to carry out their researches and studies and formulating a code of ethics for them. 

President instructed University Grants Commission to set up a separate unit to provide information to the University teachers on higher studying and research opportunities available in other countries. 

President also instructed relevant officials to construct a housing scheme with all the facilities for the University teachers, systematize their current pension procedures and provide transport facilities for them.
