President grants Sacred Area Status to Deeghavapi

President Mahinda Rajapaksa handed over documents declaring Deegavapi Vihara in Eastern Province Sacred Areas Status to the Chief Incumbent Ven. Nannapurawa Buddharakkitha Thero at Temple Trees yesterday (February 20). 

President Rajapaksa said the government was responsible for the conservation of all sites of national heritage and will conserve all such sites in the Eastern Province.  

The Physical Planning Division of the Ministry of Urban Development and Sacred Area Development have taken steps to conserve the site as a sacred area.
