Batticaloa local polls: nearly 90 percent cast their votes    

   
Postal voting for the forthcoming elections for local authorities in Batticaloa District concluded on February 21 with more than 90 percent of the eligible voters casting their votes, Elections Commissioner’s Office said.

Elections to 09 local authorities in Batticaloa District to be held on 10th March, 2008.

Deputy Elections Commissioner W. P. Sumanasiri told PRIU out of 1004 who applied for postal votes, 934 voters were eligible. More than 880 voters cast their ballot, he said.

The 270,100 registered voters are eligible to use their franchise at this election to elect a total number of 128 representatives.
