Exposition of Buddha’s hair relic at Temple Trees

A special exposition of Buddha’s hair relic gifted to Sri Lanka by Chitagong Purana Viharaya in Bangladesh was held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees this morning (February 28).

The hair relic will be taken to Kataragama today for a public exposition till March 01.

The lock of hair of the Buddha, who lived more than 2550 years ago in ancient India, was brought to Bangladesh in the 1930’s by a Tibetan monk.

Sri Lanka possesses the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha, the most venerated object of worship for Buddhists.

Its present house, the Dalada Maligawa in Kandy is considered to be the foremost sacred place of worship in the Buddhist world.
