Army refutes LTTE canards

Sri Lanka Army firmly refutes the claim made by the Tamilnet website that the Army's Deep Penetration Unit has killed 8 civilians in two incidents at  Munrumuruppu, Panangkamam and in between Maruthodai and Olumadu respectively on February 27.

These could have been the result of the tractors in which the victims were traveling being caught by mines laid down by the LTTE to prevent the Army's advance, added the spokesman of the Army.

It is the practice of the LTTE to spread such canards to discredit the security forces. Another clear example of such a canard was exposed by Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara recently when he demonstrated how a pro-LTTE website called tamileditors .com had taken a picture of a guerilla killed in Iraq from a story in the website  www.world.mnt published on June 3, 2006 and described it as that of a civilian killed in Mannar by the Army.
