President wants speedy action to protect SLRC employees
President Mahinda Rajapaksa today directed that speedy action be taken to bring to book those responsible for attacks on employees of Rupavahini, and has called for a plan of action to protect them.

Here is the text of the statement issued by the Director, Government Information.

The government expresses its grave concern about the recent repeated brutal attacks directed at the employees of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC).

While the government has taken every action to ensure the security of media personnel, the government is greatly surprised about the savage act of thuggery carried out on Mr. Anurasiri Hettige, President of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation Employees Union, the day after a successful discussion was held by the trade unions of SLRC with Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, IGP Victor Perera and the Management of SLRC with regard to preventing acts of thuggery against employees of SLRC.

At a special discussion President Mahinda Rajapaksa had today (March 14) with Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene with regard to these regrettable incidents, the President instructed the Defence Secretary to bring those responsible for these offences before the law without delay.

The President also instructed the Minister of Media and Information to work out a plan of action to ensure the protection of employees of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.
