The European Union Troika (current Presidency is
Slovenia, future Presidency is France and the
European Commission) met the Sri Lanka delegation
headed by Dr. Palitha Kohona, Secretary Foreign
Affairs, yesterday (March 17).
During the meeting, EU re-affirmed the commitment
towards Sri Lanka in finding a solution to the
conflict and also in its efforts to reconstruct and
rehabilitation activities, in particular, in the
Eastern Province. The EU delegation is also of the
view that the LTTE terrorism should not be
encouraged.
The Troika meeting covered a wide range of issues
including the political process and the APRC,
Eastern Province development, combating terrorism,
strengthening human rights, GSP+, global warming and
climate change, and Carbon debt.
Ambassador Janez Premoze, Director Asia, Ministry
of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of Slovenia,
Mr. Didier Leroy, Head of South Asia Division,
Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of France,
Mr. James Moran, Director for Asia, External
Relations, Mrs. Helen Campbell, Head of South Asia
Unit, Mr. Andrea Nicolaj, Desk Officer Sri Lanka,
Mr. Michael Swann, Council for European Union led
the EU Troika. Senior Officials of the Ministries of
Foreign, Finance, Disaster Management and Human
Rights, Environment and National Resources and the
officials of Attorney General’s Department
represented the Sri Lanka delegation.
