President meets newly elected Batti local govt representatives
The election victory in eastern local government is a giant step towards the liberation of entire east from terrorism. Now you can decide your future as people of east, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing the newly elected local government representatives at the Presidential Secretariat today (March 18).

"Winning confidence of people through election brings with it a serious responsibility. Under democracy you have to listen to people and find solutions to their problems. Now we have given this serious responsibility to the representatives of the east".

Under democracy it is justice that prevails. You are now entrusted with the task of justice prevails in the east, President added.

We liberated the east so that the people there could take their own decisions. We have given an unprecedented importance to the development of east. We have already allocated 6000 million Rupees for this purpose. In short we want to make the east an economic hub.
