Record Maha season harvest in Jaffna

Due to timely inputs and favorable weather, a harvest of 17,740 metric tons of paddy was recorded in this Maha season in Jaffna peninsula, Jaffna Government Agent told PRIU today (March 19).

The paddy cultivation in Jaffna peninsula covered 8752 hectares and the extent of paddy cultivation in the North in 2007/08 is 9,036 hectares.

In Jaffna, paddy is cultivated as mono crop followed by vegetable and other field crops.
