President's Milad un Nabi Message |
|
|
|
|
I am pleased to send this message of greetings today
as the followers Islam in Sri Lanka, join their
brethren the world over, to celebrate the birth
anniversary of the Holy Prophet Mohammed.
On this significant day in the Islamic calendar it
is customary to reflect on the teachings of the
Prophet Mohammed that have through the centutries
nurtured important trends in religious, cultural and
scientific thinking.
The Prophet Mohammed was a bearer of good news for
all those who abandon evil, listen to and follow the
word of God. The universal teachings of the Holy
Prophet laid stress on humanism and compassion,
highlighting non-violence as the better path to
peace. Accordingly, Islamic teaching gives
importance to tolerance, mutual understanding and
brotherhood as the great virtues to be practiced by
man.
In this spirit of tolerance and understanding the
Muslims of Sri Lanka will today reflect in their
prayers on the need to set aside differences in our
own society and unite to raise our nation to great
heights.
I extend my warm good wishes to the followers of
Islam in Sri Lanka on this very special day.
