Reconstruction of irrigation facilities in East expedited
The Government has expedited reconstruction of the irrigation facilities commenced under Nagenahira Navodaya development programme bringing more benefits to the communities living in the East.

Under Nagenahira Navodaya the rehabilitation work of the Allal irrigation tank in Trincomalee, which provides irrigation facilities to over 7,000 hectares of fertile lands in Mutur, Seruvila and the Echchillampaththu Divisional Secretariats has been accelerated.

The World Bank funded project which costs Rs.200 million will be completed by 2010 and will benefit more than 10,000 farming families.

Under this project 26.73 kilometres of main canals and 66 kilometres of distribution canals will be rehabilitated. The 3.3 kilometer long bund and 300 meter long spill causeway will also be upgraded to increase the capacity of the tank.

The damaged existing sluice gates of Mawil Aru will be replaced with new radial gates. The Kallar canal and Verugal Aru bridge are also to be rehabilitated.
