Saudi Arabia has agreed to provide expertise for
oil exploration and refining in Sri Lanka following
discussions Petroleum and Petroleum Resources
Minister A H M Fowzie had with his Saudi Arabian
counterpart Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister
Ali Al-Naimi in Riyadh yesterday (23). Saudi Arabia
has agreed to cooperate with Sri Lanka in the fields
of oil supply, exploration and investments,” Fowzie
said. “We have plans to improve our refining
capacity from 50,000 to 100,000 barrels a day and
getting Saudi expertise for the proposed expansion
will facilitate the successful implementation of the
project,” he added.
He also said that Sri Lanka has plans to increase
oil imortss from Saudi Arabia from 10 to 30 percent
in the near future. Saudi Minister Al-Naimi said
Saudi experts could visit Sri Lanka and offer them
the required training in the field of exploration.
