Kelaniya flyover opens

The Kelaniya flyover, the first of 222 bridges to be constructed countrywide opened under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa this morning (March 25).

The length of the Kelaniya flyover is 325 meters. Two lanes have been constructed under the first phase of the project. The second phase of the project is due to commence next month with the intention of constructing two lanes. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs. 2.1 billion.

Over 75,000 vehicles travel along Colombo-Kandy main road every day and the flyover built across the Peliyagoda railway crossing is expected to ease the traffic congestion.
