Rejecting media reports of that withdrawal Police
Special Task Force (STF) personnel from parts of the
East was done to please a third party, Defence
spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said the
re-deployment of these personnel was part of the
process to restore civil administration in the area.
He said so at a media briefing in Colombo this
morning (March 25).
Massive development projects initiated by the
government after liberating the East from the LTTE
have given the opportunity to the communities living
in the area to restore their livelihoods and to
enjoy their political rights through the recently
concluded Batticaloa local government elections.
The Eastern PC polls scheduled on May 10 would
further strengthen democracy in the area and there
is no need for civilians to turn to terrorists to
gain their rights, the Minister said.
