Vavuniya police rescues abducted civilian

Vavuniya Police arrested four individuals allegedly to be LTTE operatives while they were fleeing with an abducted civilian at Pomppaimadu, Vavuniya last evening (March 24), Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said addressing media in Colombo today.

The abducted civilian was identified as Sumith Prasanna Manawadu, an Insurance Executive at the 'Ceylinco Insurance' - Vavuniya branch. According to Police sources, the insurance executive was abducted by the LTTE while he was attending a wedding ceremony at Thirunawakulama in Vavuniya.

Meanwhile, more than 500 LTTE cadres were killed in confrontations in North from March 5 to March 24.

From January to date more than 100 LTTE dead bodies were handed over to ICRC, said the Military spokesman.
