Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake yesterday
(March 27) met his Jordanian counterpart Nader
Dahabi and discussed ways to boost cooperation
between the two countries in the labor field.
The two premiers agreed to finish the implementation
of procedures which were agreed on within the MoU
signed in 2006 in the field of the flow of labors
between the two countries.
Prime Minister Wickremanayake expressed appreciation
for the establishment of a joint committee between
the two countries to discuss a number of procedural
and practical obstacles facing the flow of labors
between the two countries. He also discussed
problems faced by Sri Lankan workers in Jordan,
particularly domestic workers. These issues were
raised by President Mahinda Rajapaksa during his
visit to Jordan last year with King Abdullah.
Jordanian Prime Minister affirmed that the Sri
Lankan labors in Jordan contribute to the national
economy through their work in the qualified
industrial zones and in the area of domestic
employment, expressing Jordan's keenness on boosting
cooperation between the two countries in these
areas. Dahabi praised the relations between the two
countries, expressing desire to benefit from the
experience of Sri Lanka in the field of vocational
training especially in the areas of nursing and
medical services.
