LTTE attacks: Clergy shifts Madhu statue for safety |
|

|
Church authorities in Mannar have shifted the statue
of "Our Lady of Madhu" to a safe destination in the
Wanni following repeated LTTE attacks on the sacred
Madhu Church.
Though the Madhu Church area has been declared a No
War Zone, the LTTE has positioned heavy mortar and
artillery guns close to the church and attacked the
security forces during the recent days. Several LTTE
artillery attacks have hit the Church destroying its
buildings. In contrast, the security forces have
spared the Church area despite the attacks of the LTTE.
It is learnt that the LTTE had ordered the priests
to vacate the Church and shift the Madhu statue.
Meanwhile, the security forces are advancing towards
the Madhu area and are expected to liberate the
sacred zone so that the Madhu statue could be brought back and safely enshrined at the
Madhu Church.
