Minister Jeyaraj assassinated in terror attack
Minister of Highways and Road Development and Chief Government Whip Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, was assassinated in an LTTE bomb explosion in Weliweriya in the Western Gampaha District, this morning (April 6), more than 25 km away from Colombo.

The blast occurred when the Minister, who was the chief guest at a Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival event, was about to flag off a marathon run which was part of the celebrations.

According to available information many civilians have also been killed, and several more injured in the attack carried out by a suicide killer of the separatist terrorist LTTE, in the midst of a large gathering.
