Chennai-based agents help illegal migration to US – Times of India

A group Chennai-based agents, with network in Colombo and East Asian countries help Sri Lankan Tamils with to the US and Canada. These agents also provide fake passports and travel documents for illegal migration and have been sending them through Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, Times of India reported yesterday (April 17).

According to airport sources, there are more than 35 agents in Chennai, coordinating illegal migration at Rs. 15 lakh a person. "No effort of ours could pin them down. When things got tightened in Chennai airport, they selected Bangalore and Trivandrum airport for their operations. When we alerted about Sri Lankans flying with fake documents from these airports, they shifted their base to Mumbai. We spoiled their chances there also and they shifted to Delhi. For the last six months, they have been carrying out the final part of their operations from Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. However, all their basic planning takes place in Chennai," the Times of India reported quoting senior official.

According to the official, documents that are forged mainly in Colombo were delivered to agents in Chennai. If possible they hand over the forged documents, mobile sim cards and air tickets for Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur to the Sri Lankans in Chennai.
