The Government will make a donation of US$
25,000/- to the Government of the Union of Myanmar
to assist victims of the recent cyclone, which
devastated large parts of the country, Foreign
Ministry said yesterday (May 6).
The Government is also contemplating sending a team
of medical doctors and nurses to the cyclone
affected areas to provide medical assistance and
care to those in need.
The Government and the people of Sri Lanka express
their sympathy to the bereaved families of those who
lost their lives in this natural disaster and their
solidarity with the friendly people of Myanmar, in
their hour of need.
According to latest information the death toll from
the cyclone has now risen to more than 22,000.
Another 41,000 are missing three days after Cyclone
Nargis hit the country, causing a huge tidal surge
to sweep inland.
