Elections Department officials say that all
arrangements were in place for a free and fair poll
in the East, which would take place at 1,022 centres
in Trincomalee, Ampara and Batticaloa districts
tomorrow (May 10).
Officers who have been deployed for the election
are due to report to their centres form today. The
Election officers have been deployed from Colombo
and several other areas.
Around 6500 officers will be deployed for the
election activities in the Batticaloa district. 362
polling centres have been established in the
district and out of that 32 centres have been set up
for the displaced.
In the Ampara district 7578 officers will
organize the election activities. They will be
deployed for 430 polling centres.
Around 3000 officers will be deployed for the
election activities in the 284 polling centres in
Trincomalee.
Representing 18 political parties and 73
independent groups a total of 1342 candidates will
contest in the Eastern Provincial Council Election.
