Maha Sangha appeal to help cyclone-hit Myanmar

 

The Three Chapters of the Maha Sangha have appealed for assistance from the public to help the people of Myanmar affected by the recent cyclone, a Tourism Ministry release said.

A special committee consisting Ven. Aggamahapanditha Kotugoda Dammawasa Anunayaka thero, Ven. Ittapana Dammalankara thero, Ven. Brahmanawatte Sivalee thero, Ven. Prof. Bellanwila Wimalarathana thero, Ven. Madululwawe Sobitha thero, Ven. Muruttetuwe Ananda thero, Ven. Daranagama Kusaladamma thero and Ven. Thiniyawala Palitha Thero have been appointed to collect donations and coordinate with the authorities.

Ven. Aggamahapanditha Kotugoda Dammawasa Anunayaka Thero said, Sri Lanka and Myanmar are Buddhist countries with long standing friendship and Sri Lanka should help the people of Myanmar.

The committee has opened centres at Nagadeepa Viharaya, Baseline Road, Dematagoda, Sri Naga Viharaya, Kotte, Abayaramaya, Narahenpita and Sambodi Viharaya to collect instant food, drinking water and clothes.
