FM briefs diplomatic corps on EPC polls |

Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama today
briefing the diplomatic corps on the Eastern
Provincial Council elections results said
that the successful conduct of elections in
the Eastern province is a clear reflection
of the genuine interest of the government
create an environment, in which all
communities and ethnicities could live in
harmony and achiever economic prosperity.
"The government has paved the way for the
TMVP, a breakaway group of the LTTE, which
has now registered itself as a legitimate
political party, to enter the political
stream. It is our hope that this course of
action would not only establish greater
normalcy in the region but would also
enhance greater confidence among the
communities as well as creating more
economic opportunities for the people of
Eastern province," Minister added.
The Minister reiterated that peace,
stability and development in the country are
the highest priorities of the government and
assured the government would do everything
within its boundaries to make the Eastern
provincial council more vibrant, both
politically and economically.
