UK Parliamentarians meet President

 

The current situation in Sri Lanka particularly the government's commitment to address the grievances of all communities through a political process whilst seeking to eradicate terrorism and the stepped up terrorist violence of the LTTE featured in Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa's briefing to British MPs on present developments in the country.

The discussion took place when members of a cross party group of British parliamentarians met President Rajapaksa last afternoon.

The President also informed them on the developments in the Eastern Province including the recent elections and the steps taken by the government to launch a massive development programme aimed at empowering the people, as well as steps taken by the government to address Human Rights issues.

The President also apprised them of the LTTE activities in the UK, especially raising funds to fund violence in Sri Lanka . The British MPs expressed their willingness to closely support Sri Lanka and to extend whatever assistance possible.

Lord Naseby, Co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Sri Lanka, Mr. Andrew Love, MP – Co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Sri Lanka, Lord Rogan – Vice-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Sri Lanka, Mr. Andrew George, MP, Mr. Stephen Hammond, MP, Mr. Mark Pritchard, MP, Mr. Brian Binley, MP and Lord Dholakia participated in the discussion.
