Conspiracy to smear Sri Lankan image – inter-religious dignitaries

Religious dignitaries who met President Mahinda Rajapaksa at President’s House this morning pointed out that certain groups were engaging in propagating baseless allegations locally and internationally against the government and bringing disgrace to the country. They had come together as an inter-religious body to challenge these forces and depict the true picture of the country.

President Rajapaksa who met religious dignitaries at President’s House today said that it was not his intention to go to war with the people of this country and will not hesitate to work with the LTTE if they lay down arms for the benefit of the country.

The President assured that he was not at all prepared to compromise the security of the country and people and was not ready to hand over the country to a terrorist organization.

Ven. Prof. Bellanwila Wimalarathana Thero in his remarks said religious leaders of all faiths were keen to work closely with the President while ensuring the religious freedom of every community.

They also commended the efforts by the President to bring a lasting solution to the ethnic issue by setting up an All Party Representative Conference and requested the President to include religious leaders and political leaders too in the conference.
