China to supply generators in Jaffna

The Chinese government has donated six high-capacity generators, each capable of producing nearly 6MW, to supply electricity to Jaffna peninsula.

According to Sri Lanka Electricity Board sources the base structures to fit the six generators are nearing completion in Chunnakam.

The Chinese team will be staying in Jaffna peninsula to produce and supply electricity to the entire peninsula besides maintenance and supervision.

The six generators with their combined capacity can produce 36 MW electricity.

Sri Lanka had also entered into an agreement with India to establish a coal-based thermal power plant at Champpoor in Trincomalee district in the Eastern Province.
