Certain groups attempt to disrupt administration - Defence spokesman

The proposed token strike for tomorrow is an attempt by certain groups to disrupt the administration in the country and the government will not hesitate to ensure the law and order in the country, Defence spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said addressing media in Colombo today.

"The working class has every right to participate in strikes but the proposed trade union action is completely unreasonable as the government has already granted an interim allowance of Rs. 1000 to the public sector," Minister added.

The government cannot go for a salary hike in the middle of the year and moreover it will cost the government additional Rs. 60 billion.

The government has already announced a pay increase in the next budget.
