Sri Lanka condemns attack on US Consulate General in Istanbul

The Government condemns in the strongest possible terms, the terrorist attack targeting the Consulate General of the United States in Istanbul, Turkey yesterday (July 9).

"Sri Lanka also expresses its grave concern that the terrorist attack has targeted a diplomatic mission. It is deeply disturbing that the attack was carried out with full knowledge that civilians could suffer death or injury," Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Government of Sri Lanka conveys its condolences to the families of the security personnel who lost their lives in this senseless attack. This dastardly act highlights the need to redouble efforts at international level to eradicate terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Sri Lanka will continue to work with the international community in this endeavour.
