TN police seize electronic gadgets meant for LTTE

 

Tamil Nadu Police in a pre-dawn operation yesterday seized a large quantity of electronic gadgets and other articles meant for smuggling to Sri Lanka and arrested four persons, including three Lankan Tamil refugees at Uppur Chathiram near Thiruppalaikkudi, in Tamil Nadu.

Police sources acting on a tip-off, intercepted a speeding van at Uppur Chathiram check post. During the check up, police found ten Global Positioning System (GPS) equipments, 3360 pen torch batteries, one Honda Genset, one bundle LTTE uniform , five cell phones, 11 life jackets, one pistol cover, one satellite TV receiver, two battery chargers and Rs. 28,050 cash in the van, Indian media reports said.

According to Tamil Nadu police all the seized goods were meant for the LTTE.

Four occupants of the van, namely S Sivaraman (23), G Ramanan (32), S Vijilesh Nandan alias Vasu, S Vijaya Neevidan alias Naveen (26), were arrested by the police.

Except Sivaraman, the other three were Sri Lankan refugees and they were the inmates of the Transit Camp for Sri Lankan Tamil Refugees at Tiruchirapalli.
