Second phase of Kelani flyover opens today

 

The second phase of the Jeyaraj Fernandopulle Memorial flyover constructed on the Kandy Colombo road will be commissioned today.

The second phase of the fly over at Kelaniya has been constructed within 75 days under a concept initiated by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The dual lane flyover to facilitate the traffic flow at the Kelaniya level crossing is 325 meters in length 7.4 meters in width. The project has been completed at a cost of Rs.1,050 million. The whole project estimated to cost Rs. 2,100 million is funded by the British Government.

The construction work of this flyover was commenced on the initiative by former Highways and Road development Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle.

The first phase of the project was completed within 61 days setting a world record.
