BOI Project to set up world’s first Nano Technology Park

The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) has signed an agreement with SLINTec to develop and manage the world’s first Nanotechnology Park which is expected to commence operations in November.

According to a BOI press release the Nanotechnology Park, located at Homagama is an investment of US $ 10 million and will generate around 1500 employment opportunities.

Examples of Nanotechnology include the manufacture of polymers based on molecular structure and the design of computer chip layouts based on surface science. Nanotechnology will produce benefits in two ways by making existing products and processes more cost effective, durable and efficient and by creating entirely new products.

Secretary of Ministry of Science and Technology A. N. R. Amarathunga and Chairman SLINTec Mahesh Amalean signed the agreement on behalf of the government and the company respectively.
