The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI)
has signed an agreement with SLINTec to
develop and manage the world’s first
Nanotechnology Park which is expected to
commence operations in November.
According to a BOI press release the
Nanotechnology Park, located at Homagama is
an investment of US $ 10 million and will
generate around 1500 employment
opportunities.
Examples of Nanotechnology include the
manufacture of polymers based on molecular
structure and the design of computer chip
layouts based on surface science.
Nanotechnology will produce benefits in two
ways by making existing products and
processes more cost effective, durable and
efficient and by creating entirely new
products.
Secretary of Ministry of Science and
Technology A. N. R. Amarathunga and Chairman
SLINTec Mahesh Amalean signed the agreement
on behalf of the government and the company
respectively.
