President leaves for New York to attend UN
General Assembly |

President Mahinda Rajapaksa left for New
York this afternoon to attend the 63rd
session of the UN General Assembly.
The UN General Assembly opened on Tuesday at
the UN Headquarters in New York with the
participation of 192 countries. Issues of
global food crisis, UN reform, Water,
terrorism and human rights, nuclear control
and disarmament, human trafficking, the
situation of Palestine, humanitarian
assistance and gender equality and climate
change are among the key themes of this
year's assembly.
President Rajapaksa is to address the
General Assembly on September 24.
