Major Gen. Janaka Perera assassinated

 

The opposition leader of the North-Central provincial council, Maj General Janaka Perera was assassinated in a bomb explosion at Anuradhapura, this morning believed to have been carried out by the LTTE.

Defence sources said an LTTE suicide cadre blew himself up inside the United National Party (UNP) office near the Old Bus Stand in Auradhapura.

According to the latest information, over 20 were killed in the attack and many others are reported to be wounded.
