President of the Palestinian National
Authority (PNA) Mahmoud
Abbas will arrive in the country today on a
two-day state visit.Mahmoud Abbas was
elected President of the Palestinian
National Authority (PNA) in 2005.
Abbas is a leading politician in Fatah.
He served as the first Prime Minister of the
Palestinian Authority in 2004. Before being
named Prime Minister, Abbas led the PLO's
Negotiations Affairs Department. He has
served as Chairman of the PLO Executive
Committee since 2004, after Yasser Arafat's
death.
During his stay in Colombo, the
Palestinian leader is scheduled to hold
bilateral talks with President Mahinda
Rajapaksa and other political leaders of the
country.
