President holds bilateral discussions with Nepali PM

 

On the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit, President Mahinda Rajapaksa held bilateral meetings yesterday with Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

The discussions focused on several issues pertaining to inter-cultural and religious activities with the President drawing special attention to development activities in Lumbini.

Both countries agreed to cooperate towards the establishment of a "Bilateral Commission" aimed at further strengthening the religious and cultural ties between the two nations.

President Rajapaksa also briefed the Napali delegation of Sri Lanka's current political developments and of the measures taken by the Government to develop the Eastern Province, recently liberated from the clutches of terrorism.

The Nepali Prime Minister while appreciating the measures taken by the Sri Lankan government to maintain a high standard in the educational and healthcare sectors expressed hope that Sri Lanka would assist his country in this spheres as well.
