Japan funds to improve livelihoods of Mannar communities

 

The Japanese Government through its "Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP)" has provided US$ 88, 020 to improve livelihoods of communities in the Mannar District.

The project titled "Sustainable Grass Root Level Human Security Interventions in Mannar District" is implemented by the "Community Trust Fund (CTF)" and the fund will be utilized to repair a total of 4.8 km length of three roads in Sinna Karaisal, Hijra Nagar and Olai Thoduwai villages in the Mannar DS, a total of 1.6 km length of three roads and 3 km length of irrigation channels in Puthuvely, Alawaki, Malitan and Rasoolputnuveli villages of Nanattan DS in the Mannar District.

This project is expected to benefit a total of 511 families directly and 2000 families in-directly in the two DS areas by increasing water supply to their agricultural fields and improving their mobility to carry out their livelihood activities effectively.

The signing of this Grant Contracts took place at the Embassy of Japan on December 10. Japanese Ambassador Kiyoshi Araki together with Mr, S.H. Firdous, Managing Trustee of CTF signed the Grant Contract in the presence of other officials at the Embassy of Japan in Colombo.
