Nominations for the dissolved Central and North Western Provincial Councils will be accepted from today till noon December 31, the Election Secretariat said yesterday.

The Government dissolved the Central and North Western Provincial Councils with effect from December 8.

According to the Election Secretariat nominations would be accepted by the Returning officers of the respective districts from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm. Leaders of Independent groups intending to contest the elections should make deposits in legal tender, in respect of candidates by 12 noon on December 30.

According to the Secretariat, there are 1,746,449 from Kandy, Nuwar Eliya and Matale and is set to appoint 56 members to the Central Provincial Council.

In the Northwestern province, two districts namely Kurunegala and Puttalam have a total of 1,661,733 voters and is slated to appoint 50 members to the council.

In addition two bonus seats each would be on offer to the winners of both provinces.

The date of the Election is to be announced by the Commissioner of Elections.
