PC polls on Feb. 14

 
Elections Department yesterday announced the elections for Central and North Central Provinces would be held on February 14.
Representing 19 political parties and 46 independent groups a total of 2,262 candidates will contest for 106 seats in the Central (56 seats) and Northwestern (50 seats) Provincial Councils at the forthcoming polls to the two Councils.

The nominations were received at Kandy, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Kurunegala and Puttalam District Secretariat offices by Returning Officers.

The acceptance of nominations closed at noon yesterday.

However, according to the Elections Department, 11 nomination lists have been rejected that include five nomination lists of political parties and six nomination lists of independent groups.
