The troops of Task Force 1 on an aggressive advance after the fall of the key Paranthan town and junction - on Monday (29th) have proceeded beyond Karadipokku junction and entered Kilinochchi town today (2nd). It is reported that they have proceeded beyond the railway station, and having crossed the A9 have taken control of key locations including the Kilinochchi hospital area.

Skirmishes are on between advancing troops and weakened LTTE cadres with a strong possibility of an official announcement later today regarding a capture of Kilinochchi.

Kilinochchi is an important target for today Sri Lankan troops as it has been touted for long as the "Capital" of the "De-facto" state of Tamil Eelam, the establishing of which is the declared separatist goal of the LTTE.
