LTTE has threatened civilians in the
areas still held by it with death as
traitors if any attempt made to flee. To
prove they are serious of this threat they
have displayed bodies of 3 civilians near
the Ponnambalam Hospital. The bodies
were hanged on posts that had banners
stating “Fate of traitors’, according to
civilians, who have managed to escape and
are now in IDP welfare centers at Vavuniya
and Welioya.
These civilians were killed by LTTE death
squads, and dragged in public a long way
before being mutilated and displayed, the
sources said. Meanwhile, the rising
agitation against LTTE dictatorship has
resulted in a few confrontations between
civilians and LTTE operatives.
This revelation of the scale of atrocities
perpetrated by the LTTE, leaving over
hundreds suffocating under its tyranny in
the non-liberated areas at the Kilinochchi
and Mullaitivu districts, was made by
civilians who spoke to our Wanni
correspondent on a visit made to IDP welfare
centers at Vavuniya and Welioya.
Human suffering in the non-liberated areas
is escalating at an unprecedented scale with
LTTE terrorists tightening its grip over the
stranded civilians, state independent
reports from the welfare centres in Vavuniya
and Welioya.
Despite these threats hundreds of
civilians from Mullaitivu, Puthukkudiyiruppu
and Visvamadu areas have fled and sought
protection with security forces during the
past few days.
A group of 35 civilians from
Ananda-Puliyankulam area, were surrounded
and severely beaten by an LTTE-led mob near
the Sambankulama junction last December, a
civilian said. The terrorists had assaulted
the people including women and the elderly,
killing two people and dragging away the
rest whose fate is yet to be known, our
sources said citing the civilians.
It will be recalled that when the LTTE was
beginning its terrorist activities in the
1980s, it used similar public killings and
lamp-post hangings of those who were opposed
to it in the Jaffna peninsula. Some analysts
say the terrorist group is now going back to
such practices as civilian opposition to it
rises.
The LTTE is a ruthless terrorist outfit that
has been engaged in a bloody terrorist
campaign against the citizens of Sri Lanka
since 1983. Lead by a psychopathic chief,
the outfit has been trying to establish an
ethnically pure Tamil state on the Sri
Lankan soil. The LTTE is also the first
terrorist outfit to use suicide bombers, and
to develop naval and aerial fighting
capability. The outfit is listed in the UN
list of shame for using child soldiers and
banned in many countries in the world.
