Susanthika leaves the track

 

Sprinter Susanthika Jayasinghe who won Sri Lanka's second Olympic medal announced her retirement from national and international events, yesterday.

The President Mahinda Rajapaksa in a felicitation ceremony held at Temple Trees yesterday presented the sprinter with Rs. 5 million and a golden memento of appreciation of her achievements.

In 2000, she won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Athens in the women's 200 metres. She was specialized in the 100 and 200 metres and was internationally acclaimed for her excellent performances at a number of international events, in addition to her Olympic feat.
