Japan funds to improve health and livelihood of conflict affected communities

 

The Government of Japan through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects has provided a total of US$ 173,710 (approximately Rs 20 million) to three projects improve health and livelihoods of conflict affected communities in Batticaloa and Vavunniya and of plantation communities in Ratanapura.

Under the project in Batticaloa a multipurpose community centre will be set up, and roads will be upgraded and perennial crop plants will be distribute to conflict affected communities in the Manmunai DS division in the Batticaloa district.

The Project for construction of a chest clinic in the hospital premises of general hospital, Vavunniya†will be implemented by the department of the Regional Director of Health Services, Vavunniya (RDHS Vavunniya) benefiting a total of 12,000 chest patients annually in the Vavunniya and surrounding Districts.

The Project for bringing hygienically disciplined community through development of water facilities rendering awareness to the plantation sector community two water systems will be constructed and an awareness programs on hygiene disciplines will be conducted implemented in four estates in the Ratnapura District, which will directly benefit a total of 1,230 families directly in the District.
