After the military operations in which the
armed forces consolidated power in the LTTE
controlled areas, the A9 route is expected
to reopen to the public next month, said
defence spokesman Minister Keheliya
Rambukwella.
“The exact date cannot be given. However,
there is a clear possibility that it will
reopen next month” said defence spokesman.
“Prior to reopening, security forces have to
clear the road of land mines and we are
doing everything possible to open an
alternative route for the public as soon as
possible,” he added.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa is extremely
keen on opening the road soon, and his
intension is to open the passage next month,
Minister Rambukwella said. Deputy Highways
Minister W.B. Ekanayake also said road would
be open soon due to on going speedy clearing
operations by the forces.
