Commonwealth Sec.Gen. condemns attack on SL cricket team

Commonwealth Secretary General in a letter to President Mahinda Rajapaksa has expressed his deep sense of shock about the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Pakistan, by saying Sri Lanka team that had gone to Pakistan as ambassadors of goodwill.

The letter states:

I am writing to express my deep sense of shock and outrage at the terrorist attack in Pakistan on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore which deserves to be condemned in the strongest possible terms. This dastardly act of targeting sportsmen, who act as ambassadors of goodwill between nations, is particularly distressing.

The Commonwealth has consistently condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. This incident serves to remind us of the continuing and active threat posed by terrorism to innocent civilians and can only strengthen our resolve to fight this menace.

I would like to convey my best wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured cricketers.
