LTTE's Last Battle

 

The Sri Lanka Army's 53, 55 and 58 Divisions, have now engaged in their last battle against the LTTE terrorists. According to the battlefield reports, troops of 58 Division yesterday (Mar 12) further pushed their forward boundaries east of Kombavil Kulam, 4 Km north of Puthukkudiyiruppu.

Troops of 53 Division now marching east along the A-35 road (Paranthan- Mullaittivu) also faced heavy indirect fire originated from the No Fire Zone yesterday, the Defence Ministry website said.

During the day's fighting troops found the body of one LTTE carder, 15 T-56 riffles , one 81 mm mortar gun, one multi-purpose machine gun, one rocket propelled grenade launcher and two radio communication sets from Puthukkudiyiruppu East. Snipers reported gaining of 4 targets in the forward areas of Puthukkudiyiruppu East.

Meanwhile, troops of 55 Division marching south along the north-eastern coast pushed their forward boundaries further south of Puthumathaln. Troops crushed heavy terrorist resistance during the march.

"Although it is said that the area that is now under control of the LTTE 35sq km, it is only a little over 20sq km once the lagoon area is removed", said Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
