Thousands of civilians flee LTTE hold

 

Since January more than 45,519 civilians including women, children and the elderly have fled the LTTE area to the safety of government held areas, military sources said.

The number of civilians that crossed over to the Government controlled area yesterday was 1565, these include 423 men, 458 women, 334 girls and 350 boys who were rescued and taken to safety of government held areas. On their way from the non liberated area 03 males and 02 females were wounded due to indiscriminate shooting of the LTTE terrorists.

According to military sources, there is a clear possibility of increasing numbers of civilians coming to the government held areas.
