Govt to provide telecom facilities at welfare centers

The Government yesterday decided to provide telecommunication facilities to welfare camps and villages in Vavuniya within 48 hours.

Addressing a media briefing at the Presidential Secretariat, Disaster Management and Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said through this facility civilians at the welfare centers would soon be able to establish contacts with their relatives in Sri Lanka and abroad.

A special section will be set up in every camp where civilians could meet their relatives and friends living outside the camp, the Minister said.

“We put in place a new system through which displaced families are identified and arrangements are in place to expedite their reunification”. Over 1,108 families were reunited under this program and officials have identified more than 100 such families seeking reunification with their family members.
